"I was the main caregiver for my husband Charlie while he was living with ALS. It wasn't always easy, and some days I just didn't think I could do it.
We were married for over 47 years, and I wanted to keep Charlie in our home, where he was happiest. We were blessed to spend his last years together because we were able to have a very helpful aide in our home for several hours a week thanks to his veteran benefits.
I know the Howard I. Abrams Program provides personal care assistance for many ALS families who don't have the opportunity that we did. That is why I continue to give to the Abrams Program. Please join me in giving a gift to this critical program."
Thank You from Joan McCormick, Abrams Monthly Donor
"I am 90 years old and because my donations are monthly, I am a proud member of the Chapter's ALS Everyday Hero Club. My small monthly gift goes a long way in supporting this wonderful organization.
My husband Neil has been living with ALS for five years, and I am his primary caregiver. The Chapter's Howard I. Abrams In-Home Care Program is vital to both Neil and me. Thanks to this program, he can safely remain in our home with me.
Our wonderful Abrams aide Mireya comes several times a week to help with Neil's care. Her help gives me time to tend to personal tasks and get a bit of a rest."
