ALS is a progressive, neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, dress, write, speak, swallow, and eventually breathe. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries. Presently, there is no known cause. The disease is 100% fatal with a life expectancy of two to five years after diagnosis.
