Your Voice Matters
You can lead us closer to a world without ALS by joining our dedicated network of advocates throughout in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. As an ALS advocate, you can help change the laws and policies that affect thousands of people living with ALS and their families.
In 2018, advocates helped us garner more than $1 million in combined funding for ALS care and services from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. Never before has the Chapter crested $1 million. This historic outcome was achieved because of the compelling stories our advocates continue to share through letters and visits with lawmakers.
2018 Key Advocacy for the Greater Philadelphia Chapter
- Throughout 2018 the Chapter visited with close to 100 state legislators across DE, NJ, and PA.
- The PA legislature increased funding for ALS care and services by 50%, from $500,000 to $750,000.
- The New Jersey government nearly shut down for the second year in a row, putting our funding in jeopardy. Thanks in part to the momentum established by our advocates, the legislature and governor ultimately passed a budget that maintained ALS funding at $250,000.
- In 2017, the Delaware legislature was forced to dramatically cut back on their grant-in-aid program. This year, with the support of key legislators, the grants were not only reinstated but increased to make up for lost dollars, raising our funding from $30,300 in 2017 to $47,875 in 2018, or by 58%.
