ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Progress

The Marjorie Shimer Durable Medical Equipment Loan Program

Over twenty years ago, Dale Shimer established this program in memory of his wife Marjorie

so no person or family facing ALS should have to live without vital medical equipment.

“The wheelchair, shower chair, and many other essential items Paul received from the Chapter’s loaner closet give him the independence to participate in so many activities.”

— Eileen and Paul Miller, Scranton, PA

Please help families like the Millers cope with the huge physical, emotional, and financial challenges of living with ALS.

This past year, the Shimer Program loaned over 300 pieces of essential equipment!

All the equipment loaned to ALS families is provided free of charge. That includes ramping, manual and power wheelchairs, shower benches, Hoyer lifts, and other essential equipment to meet the needs of those living with ALS.

"When we explain this program to our patients, they say, 'Oh, my gosh, I had no idea you could make our lives so much easier!' "
                                    — Mary Beth Tomczak, BSW
                                         Chapter Social Worker
